A mountain of experience behind a new financial services company
It’s one thing to understand the designation of Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, and Gen Yers – it all depends on when someone was born. Typically, baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964; Generation X, between 1965 and 1980; and Gen Y Millennials, between 1980 and 1994.
But it is a whole other matter to understand what each of these individuals will need for their future retirement. After all, while some people are ready to retire, others are still in career mode, raising families, or caring for their own aging parents. Still others are just trying to pay off huge student loans.
But when it comes to finances, Jamie Lima understands and is eager to offer his help to members of each of the different generations of his new business in Ramona.
âWith Woodson Wealth Management, I had the opportunity to do something a little different,â he explains of the company he founded. “First and foremost, we provide fiduciary advice – and I give you the same advice I would give to my sister or my best friend.”
Since opening in mid-June 2020, the company may be relatively new, but the Lima experience is not. As a Chartered Financial Planner with an MBA, he has spent over a decade in financial planning and investment management, working for large organizations such as investment banking firm Morgan Stanley and the financial services Fidelity Investments.
âDuring those 15 years, I was responsible for the management and oversight of approximately $ 1.8 billion in assets and served over 850 families,â he said.
âWe plan to add more experienced advisors to the team in the fourth quarter of this year,â he adds. âMy goal is to limit our advisors to 50 to 75 relationships each, so that they can spend enough time with their clients and get to know them and their needs on a much deeper level and provide a level of service. superior. “
He continues, âWe really want to understand what individuals, families and businesses are looking for, and from there I can use the experiences I have had to help them achieve their goals. “
Fewer clients per advisor is just one of the many new strategies Woodson Wealth Management is using to help its clients.
Another strategy is fee-based financial planning.
âWe don’t deal with unnecessary additional commissions or fees,â he explains. âWe structure our fees according to the preferences and complexity of the client. There is no single financial plan, why should there be a single pricing structure? “
Customers today are also used to subscriptions, and Lima integrates subscriptions into the services offered.
“For just a few hundred dollars a month, we are able to provide a full financial planning service to young employees – and, frankly, to anyone who needs it,” he said.
Virtual meetings are another specialty.
âAlthough we have two offices, one in Ramona and the other in Del Mar, we also operate in a 100% virtual environment and are technology driven. We can meet our clients wherever they feel comfortable – in person or through Zoom – and save them time in their day, âhe said.
When not working in the office or at home, Lima takes the time to enjoy the rural surroundings of the Ramona family.
âMy wife, Dawn, and I both had offices in Del Mar and we visited Ramona almost every weekend, just to get out of the big city. About a year and a half ago we found a home here and have been here ever since, âhe said.
âWe love how friendly everyone is and absolutely love it here,â he added. Between the two, their five children are aged 17, 16, 15, 13 and 8.
âThey help a lot on the farm – we have pet rabbits and chickens and a lot of chores to do – and the work has been a good experience for them,â said Lima.
âAll kids are involved in sports, whether it’s baseball, softball or water sports, and traditionally we would either be at games or tournaments,â he said. âSince COVID closed everything, you can often find us in antique shops on Main Street, having dinner at local restaurants, or with the kids at Sutherland Dam, which is their new favorite spot. “
