By Alex Davidson (June 20, 2022, 10:54 BST) – The European Union’s legal action against the UK for failing to comply with the Northern Ireland Protocol has raised concerns that regulators in the bloc may now grant greater attention to whether UK finance services firms have adequate risk management and governance in the EU.

British lawyers have warned that the row over the Brexit document could escalate into a trade war if left unchecked. Some also say bad feelings stemming from the dispute could spill over to financial services if European regulators come under pressure to step up compliance scrutiny of UK companies.
